SeattleLooking up inside the skyspace: an oval opening shows deep blue sky above a glowing pale-yellow ceiling, and a person sits on a curved cedar bench below, looking up.

James Turrell’s Light Reign, a permanent Skyspace at the Henry, frames an opening to the sky within an architectural enclosure. Through it, open air can read as a flat surface.

The work

Weather and electric light both shape the work; the lighting is part of the current restoration.

Before you go

Give your eyes time to adjust. The Henry also offers a guided meditation and an audio work for the space.
