Steven Holl’s chapel at Seattle University gathers daylight through roof volumes facing different directions. Colored lenses, and baffles concealing painted surfaces, bring tinted and reflected light into the interior. It remains an active place of worship.

The work

Clear and colored light shifts across walls and floor with the sky. A reflecting pool lies outside.

Before you go

For a quiet visit, go on a weekday outside scheduled Mass. If a service is underway, follow its lead.
