Bloedel Reserve: Moss Garden and Reflection Pool

Bainbridge IslandA reddish gravel path curves through a forest past tree trunks and a large stump covered in bright green moss, which carpets the ground.

Permanent collection

Bloedel Reserve has been shaped by several designers over decades. Its two key spaces are the Moss Garden and Thomas Church’s 1970 Reflection Pool, a long rectangle of water framed by clipped hedges.

The work

The wider loop crosses varied surfaces and changes in grade. The pool’s original curved benches have been removed, and the accessible road includes a short, substantial incline.

Before you go

Entry is timed. Arrive early if you are combining the reserve with other stops on the island.
